October 2010

Life has been busy - and it does go quickly. So here is a quick roundup!

We moved into our new home at the end of May. We got all our belongings into the van in one load. This gave us time for extra purchases at a certain well known store. We also purchased a car (Matilda) so Alison could drive to work (20 minutes). The 5 minute walk to the train station was a great strain for Alan, that was until they closed the railway line for 4 months of upgrade. Luckily there is a bus that goes past the end of our road to take him straight into the city.

In July we visited Perth - going across on the train - a lovely relaxing 36 hours, visited a few sights - Pinnacles, Tree top walk, saw an friend and did a wine tour. The wine tour included Houghton's where we seem to purchase a few bottles!

August saw a new job for Alan just outside of the CBD (so Bus in and a 30min walk).

Moving forward to October, another visit to the flat pack store to purchase a guest bed and outdoor furniture for the warmer months.
David (Alison's dad) arrived for 3 weeks - perfect opportunity to visit the Barossa and Mclaren Vale Wine regions.

Looking forward - the weather should be getting into the BBQ season and opportunities to visit more wine regions and producers!

April 2010

Well again I wonder what has happened to the time?  Seems to have flown by!

Well the big news is that we have bought a house!  Photos will be on here soon enough I am sure, but in the meantime search for Warehouse Lane, Mawson Lakes.  Anyone who wants exact figures for Google Streetwalk just mail us for the numbers.  Transferring money from the UK was pretty painless, apart from the worst exchange rate in 25 years....    We look out over a creek (dry most of the time I think) and reserve, and are 5 minutes walk from shops and cafes, 8 minutes from the station.   It is further out of the city, but the transport is ideal and we get the space and the views we wanted.  (Oh no, now I sound like Phil and Kirstie!)   Moving in 5 weeks so book your spaces now.  We will be buying a car as well - it is only 20 minutes from the Barossa Valley!  Planned settlement date is May 20th so we will be moving in over the weekend of the 22nd.

Also we have been out and about a bit recently - check out the photo gallery for views of koalas, kayaks, kangaroos and more.

Work is moving on and settling down into the swing of things, now looking to book a holiday somewhere in the winter, but see how we go with moving house and anything else that might come up.  April is of course also the month that Spandau Ballet came to Adelaide.... yippeee!

February 2010

Well where has the time gone?

Just after posting the November update, Alan was offered a job at one of the big banks here, which was a nice surprise!  It's in one of the southern suburbs, and Alan gets to commute on bus and train which takes about an hour.  Alison kept busy meeting people for coffee, job hunting and watching a wide range of DVDs!!

I am sure the photos will keep everyone up to date, however we have also been busy with BBQs, going out for meals, watching cricket, tennis and cycling, winery trips and so on.  Christmas was a bit odd - we went to the beach for a picnic lunch, then back home for an evening barbie!

Once the summer break was over (still does not sound right that Christmas is in the summer) Alison was lucky to find work as well - as catering manager at one of the University Halls of Residence.  That is about a 45 minute journey so all in all not bad at all.  Once underway we are going to look into house buying.
