December 2010 saw us take a few days off and head off to Penola (In the Coonawarra wine region) and then to do part of the Great Ocean Road (Twelve Apostles etc).

Departing from Adelaide we drove the 400km to Penola where we were staying two nights. A little look around, met up with a friend (whom we knew fron the UK), dinner at the local pub. Next day saw a mini wine tour of the Coonawarra followed by a Birthday dinner at Pipers of Penola.
The next day saw the next leg of our journey (300km) down to Port Campbell for another two nights. En-route we had a look at the Blue Lake in Mount Gambier; We did not take pictures of the lake because it was cold and raining - so follow the Blue Lake link to see what it should look like! After this we headed on to join the Great Ocean Road and stopped off at various locations to take in the scenery; Bay of Islands, Bay of Martyrs, London Bridge (which has fallen dwn) and other scenic lookouts.
After a pleasant night in our B&B we headed further down the Ocean Road, stopping at Loch Ard Gorge and the Twelve Apostles on the way to Cape Otway, home to numerous Koala and at least one Echidna, and Apollo Bay for lunch. Then back to Apollo Bay for a well earned rest and dinner after the 200km drive. Whilst in Port Campbell Alan discovered beers from the Otway Brewery!
Then onto the final leg of our journey - travelling back to Adelaide via Robe (380km). Being a sunny day we stopped to re-take some scenic photos and even spotted a Penguin. Two nights in Robe, in a lovely apartment overlooking the marina, gave us a chance for gentle walks along the beach and even a little wine tasting as Robe is in the Padthaway wine region.
Our last day we drove back to Adelaide (350km) via the coast and the Coorong National Park, where we spoted a Shingleback and a Big Lobster (Kingston).
